Trees blocking the rivers

The Straight River 07/01/10
The Straight between Krogh's and TeePee Tonka has three trees that are blocking the main channel now that the level is lower. These trees are difficult to get through or around but the good news is that they are all next to gravel bars that make portaging around them easy.

The Cannon River 07/03/10
The Cannon between Faribault and Wilderness Park has several trees down. The trestle just outside of town has the left channel blocked but the right is open and easy to maneuver through. A couple of other trees downstream from this could get difficult as the water level drops. The second one has a narrow route between the root ball and the bank that both a 12 foot and a 9 foot kayak were able to pass around. I would not try this with a larger canoe.

Our new paddling blog

Welcome everyone to our new site that should help all of us get on the rivers that are so dear and near to us. The Straight and Cannon Rivers will be our main focus but we want to hear about any and all rivers that you are going to paddle or have paddled . I'm hoping that this site will help us will help us coordinate times, boats and river conditions to get us on the rivers. It also will be a great place to enter our pictures and stories of what we have done.
